DOUBLE CURVED CLIPPED ERRORS

Malaysia Bunga Raya Series 1991 $1.00 With Double Curved Clip Planchet Errors

Rarity:RRR

How Double Curved Clips Are Made

Please take a look at the diagram above to give you an idea of how these errors occur. Typically coin blanks are punched from a metal strip in rows. The rows are usually offset from each other (like the courses of bricks on a house) to more fully utilize the metal in the strip. In the example above the first row of blanks has been punched out correctly. However, for due to some material feeding fault or machine error the metal strip has moved from where it should have been punched so that coin blank 3 is punched out of an area that already had coin blanks 1 and 2 punched from it. This results in two curved clips on coin blank 3.

These errors are a lot more unusual than the single curved clip coin errors.I've only seen less then 5 pieces of double clip errors in two years! I'd recommend picking them up where you can.

MAJOR DIE BREAK COPPER CASH

Major Die Break On A Copper Coin

Rarity:RRRR

Since I bought this Major Die Break copper coin from Silmon Loo on 14th June 2013, I have no clue yet to certain the origin of its country.

I bought it during my recent trip to Kuantan to attend the Error Coin Seminar on 15-6-2013, organised by Kelab Warisan Numismatik Malaysia Kuantan (KWNM). Mr.Silmon Loo,a committee member of KWNM was kind enough to sell this unique piece, a bi-product of major die break copper cash to me

Mr.Silmon told me he got it from a dealer from Kelantan, may be it is a Siamese's copper coin. When I consulted Mr Tan Tai Seng, the Pakar Numismatik of Malaysia (PNM), he told me this is not a Siamese's coin because Simese's coins were always made of tin like Malay State Sultanate tin coins.
He claimed it is likely a Vitnamese or Laos's coin. When I met a Siamese friend,he double confirmed with me that it is not a Siamese's coin. An Indian neighbour told me it was writen in Taimil. Last Sunday, I showed this coin to my friend who stayed in Vietnam for many years, he told me it should be a Burma coin. Yesterday, I took it to show to a group of Burmese friends, they claimed that this is not a Burma coin. They suggested to me to consult someone who know Laos or Cambodia writing. For this, I seek your help to find me someone to can tell me where was this coin come from?

This unknown coin, indeed is a very unique Major Die Break coin. It was a casted coin, the copper fluid seeped into a big crack on the die, it solidified and formed fin liked extra metals attached perpendicular on the surface of the coin. Looked like it was discarded as a impaired coin.

Thank you so much to Mr.Silmon Loo for allowing me to inherit his collection but what bothered  me now is to find its birth place, please help............

Weight: 4.95gm

STRAITS COIN 10 CENTS OVER 1916 1/4 CENT

Straits Settlements 10 Cents Over Forgery 1/4 Cent Copper Coin 1916.
http://dniewcollectors.blogspot.com/2013/06/straits-coin-1889-20-cents-over-12-cent.html

 Rarity:RRR

On last 7th June 2013, I posted an article about  a piece of original uncirculate 1889 1/2 Cent copper coin but was impaired by chiseling a "20" figure to cover the "1/2" cent denomination.

Recently I acquired a piece of 1916 counterfeit Straits 1/4 cent copper coin but was impaired with a "10" cents figure with the intention to cheat.

I am not promoting forgery coins but it reflects the social-economy during then. People were desperate to cheat 9 3/4 cents from a 1/4 cent copper coins by chiseling a figure "10" to replace the "1/4" cent denomination.

I was told by my mother, a kati (600gm) of rice only sold for 1 cent in early 1920s.

MORE FORGERRY ERROR COINS IN FLEA MARKET

Sunday Flea Markets Flooded With Forgery Error Coins.

On 12th June 2013, I published an article on a piece of  "FORGERY DOT ON 1982 5 CENTS" coin that I found at a famous Sunday flea market in Kuala Lumpur. I visited the same venue again yesterday,I saw dealers are selling more varieties of forgery error coins. There are ranging from 1988 50 cents with "DOTS", 1982 5 cents with "DOTS" and even created some forgery "Split Planchet Before Strike" errors, "Die Trial Strike" error coins.

These unscrupulous caveat emptors welded a "Dot" on the 1988 50 cents coin's Parliament building and removed the burnt mark by polished the whole coin. They polished planchets of Malaysia Parliament Series 50 Cents from various dates until there were thin in thickness, so that the dealers can sell them as "Split Planchet Before Strike" errors, "Die Trial Strike" error coins to fool the error coins enthusiast newbies.

There are also many artificial toned coins for sale in the Sunday flea market as well. These dealers sold them for RM40 per piece.I believed that these artificial toned coins were made by using chemical or "toasted" with oxyacetylene flame. There were toned in purplish blue and golden colour. Those toned coins were mostly the Bunga Raya series of common dates in uncirculated condition.

Dealers claimed that their "stocks" were supplied by a "Malay Boy".

I was not allowed to take photo on those forgery items.
