A set of ten (10) pieces
unissued,unrecorded uniface trial pattern coins
 
I am sure most of us were not aware that there is such a set of coin exist in the market. A set of ten (10) pieces unissued,unrecorded uniface trial pattern coins which were  intended for general circulation prior to the Bank Negara Malaysia issue:

  1 Sen.Obverse.Big Nose Monkey.
  1 Sen.Obverse.Stock.
  5 Sen.Obverse.Elephant Ant-eater.
10 Sen.Obverse.Armadillo.
20 Sen.Obverse.Mousedeer with tall lallang background.
20 Sen.Obverse.Mousedeer with hill and lallang background (improve version).
20 Sen.Obverse.Mousedeer on the hill.
50 Sen.Obverse.Peacock.
10 Sen.Reverse.1967 Double-hibiscus Rosettes same as current issue.
10 Sen.Reverse.1967 Single-hibiscus Rosettes.


Royal Mint (London) mark.

The obverse of all ten (10) coins bear the Royal Mint (London) mark.


It was believed that probably not more then 4 sets of these patterns  are in existence.








1 Sen.Obverse.Big Nose Monkey.

One set was put on auction in Numismex 1989,International Coin & Paper Money Auction & Exposition, Singapore.on 31st August 1989.at a reserved price of USD3500.00.

I was told that it was bidded by Maybank Malaysia and now it should be in Maybank Money Museum in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.Syabas!

Two sets are likely to be with the Malaysia authorities or in the hands of selected dignitaries.







                                                                                



Where is the fourth set ?
5 Sen.Obverse.Elephant Ant-eater.
On 27th March 2011,when I attended a wedding dinner invited by a numismatist in Damansara,a gentlement sitting next to me is also a numismatist came from Singapore.He told me that the fourth set of this ten (10) pieces of unissued,unrecorded uniface trial pattern coins which were  intended for Malaysia general circulation minted by Royal Mint London is with him.What a good news for me! He had encapsulated all the ten coins and had them graded in US by NGC grading house.

I am very happy and feel very grad when he promised to allow me to take photos of all ten pieces of  these rare coins if I visit him in Singapore.I hope to publish the real photos of these rare coins on my Blog.

  3. Interesting, should be recorded in Standard Catalog Malaysia by steven tan, at least it help to keep the history even though seems inpossible to collect
