POST MINT JOB -DEFACED COINS

Malaysia Coins With Post Mint Job Errors,Manually Defaced

I repost these pictures of Post Mint Job coins because they are still being sold on ebay Malaysia very frequently.
You can also find them  in week end Flea Market at Armcorp Mall.

An Incused Design Of Wau.
I bought this piece of Malaysia Parliament 1990 50 Cents error coin with an intention of showing you how we Malaysian "Boleh" to make such a beautiful Post Mint Job (PMJ) error coin.
I bought this coin from an eBay dealer and he is still selling them freely for a good money on ebay and facebook recently. When I saw this error coin on eBay,it looked like a Counter Brockage Error coin or resembled a Double Strike Error coin. When I took a second look,it exhibits an rotated incused image of "Wau" kite on the obverse. It was a post mint job error coin by manually defaced the obverse.
If you are familiar and understand the coin minting process in the Mint,it is impossible to have such design of errors!
Some unscupulous persons used a hydraulic machine (I think) to press on  reverse side of a 50 cents by placing the obverse face to face on the obverse of this coin,a calculated pressure was applied so that  it will not tarnishes the details of the earlier struck. To soften the to-be-error coin for perfect result, heat may be applied.
Be very cautious when you purchase on eBay.
Here are more samples of Post Mint Job coins.

"The above coin appears to be a Post Mint job heavily hammered or struck together with another similar 1977 coin with the reverse facing the coin's obverse thereby created the partial incuse reverse image and the obvious damage on the corresponding opposing reverse side." nucoins commented.

Ghostly Images.

Notes: How to detect these counterfeit error coins?

"The faked image superimposed on the original image can never totally obliterate the original image but appears rather ghostly.
It was due to the very much lighter pressure by the hydraulic press instead of those powerful minting press in the mint.
This could be one of the features that we should look out for to identify these Post Mint Job coins." said Whycollect.

Warning: Defaced a coin still in circulation is an offence in Malaysia.

  1. Hi Mr Dickson,

    Terima kasih banyak2 Mr Dickson...

  2. Hi Dickson,
OMG, what else these buggers can't do.
After going through the examples above, it looks like the faked image superimposed on the original image can never totally obliterate the original image but appears rather ghostly.
Could it be due to the very much lighter pressure by the hydraulic press instead of those powerful minting press in the mint.
Could this be one of the features that we should look out for to identify fakes like these here.
Very important article and useful information for error coin collectors like us.
    Thanks a lot, Dickson :)

  5. Hi Dickson,
Should eBay be told of these forgeries and the name of the eBay seller be made known.
Something must be done to protect genuine collectors.

  6. Hi Dickson,
    Certainly, no problem at all.
Please just extract from our post if you need anything.
By the way, hope so you can kindly point out to us if we have inadvertently considered certain errors to be genuine instead of PMDs.
Phew, we find this aspect the hardest to master.
These crooks are always trying to be a step ahead of us, haha.
Anyway, thats the thrill out of the hobby.
    Haha, no pain no gain.
    Thanks a lot, Dickson :)
