I collected my first piece of Malaysia 2005,10 Cents Major Die Break or "CUD" error coin in Port Dickson in year 2007.
Four years later,in 2011,I found his long lost "Twin Brother" in Kuala Lumpur. What a coinsident! I wonder, can I find a triplet?

Major Die Break or "Cud" Error Coins, this is exactly what it sounds like-a major break in the die.Not all dies are perfect and many do break with the repeated pressure applied during the striking process. When the most blatant major die breaks are encountered they resemble a cow's "CUD",hence the most frequently encountered term for this highly collectible and prized error type.In order for a die break to qualify as a mojor die break the break must show definite separation taking place on the die. This may show as a piece of the die missing,in which case there will be a raised blank spot on the surface of the coin usually exhibiting concave, depression or weak design details in the same area on the opposite (opposite meaning obverse or reverse) side of the coin.It may also show a portion of the coin being seperated from the rest by heavy line (die crack),with this seperated portion being raised above the rest of the coin. This is known as a retained major die break or retained CUD.In almost all instances this major die break, full or retained, adjoints the rim and comes into the fields and design elements on the coin.

Wow Dickson,
ReplyDeleteThis is really a huge die break. By the way, I think a triplet is possible because I have seen a collector also possess this similar coin. Most probably there are in the same batch. Just imagine what if you meet a new collector which is happen to have this coin, sure both will be suprised!
Dear mnfaj, welcome.Yes,I have seen something similar to this coin but just couldn't recall where or who is having it.If you still remember who is the collector, please help me to get the "3rd brother",so that I can go for "Quadruplet",Hehe!
ReplyDeleteDickson, I used to own 2 pieces exactly like yours.
ReplyDeleteI sold them off through eBay US 2 or 3 years back.
Hi Dickson,
ReplyDeleteNice twin brothers.
Like you've said, maybe not for long.
Their mother might have given birth to more than two, haha.
Dear David,Thanks for your infos, now I knew there were born as quadruplet or even more. And two of these brothers had "migrated" oversea 2 to 3 years ago through malayastraitsbanknotes agency!Haha!
ReplyDeleteWhycollect, weicome.Confirmed by maiayastraitsbanknotes, they were born as "quadruplet".I think they may have more brothers.Luckly, they were born with the same Papa and Mama!Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI hope to find more of his brothers!
Hi Dickson,
ReplyDeleteNotice some of the 'mothers' of these coins with minor die chips are extremely productive.
They could give birth to hundreds, haha.
Thanks a lot, Dickson :)
