UNLISTED 1974 50 CENTS BRONZE GENTING GAMING TOKEN

Genting Highlands Unlisted 1974 50 Cents Bronze Gaming Token.
Rarity: Unlisted/SS47A
The Genting Highlands Resort, located on the Gunung Ulu Kali Peak in the mountainous main range in the State of Pahang 2,880 metres above sea level, was opened in mid 1971.
Malaysia's first and only casino, which was then located in the Highlands Hotel, issued One Ringgit tokens for use in the Casino de Genting between 1972 to 1974. In 1974, 20 Sen & 50 Sen tokens were issued for use in its slot machines. These tokens were however withdrawn some time later on the advised of Bank Negara Malaysia when public were accepting them as normal legal tender.
Two days ago, I was being approached by a couple of collector who showed me a piece of 1974 Genting Highlands 50 Sen bronze gaming token. I had collected many pieces of  1974 Genting Highlands 50 Sen gaming tokens, but there were made of Cupro Nickel material.

Reverse: Within a wreath " 50 SEN 1974 "
Edge: Plain.

The Cupro Nickel 1974 50 Sen token was listed as SS47 (Pahang) in Mr. Saran Singh's book," The Encyclopaedia of THE COINS OF MALAYSIA-SINGAPORE AND BRUNEI 1400-1967 ".

CIGARETTE COPPER TOKENS

Cigarette Copper Tokens Of Unknown Origin
Rarity:RRR
This is my first experience to collect two pieces of Cigarette Copper Tokens inscripted on defaced coins.
The square shape copper token was inscripted with Chinese inscription  " Siang Yen " (Cigarette) on the obverse and " Yi Zhi " ( One Stick) on the reverse. It was inscripted on a square shape copper  planchet of a defaced Straits Settlement/ Malaya One Cent coin. Which carry the meaning of this token is good for a stick of cigarette.
It looks like a square shape of Straits Settlement or a Malaya One Cent coin was flatten with force and then inscripted with the details in Chinese.

Another piece is a round shape copper cigarette token inscripted with Chinese  inscription:" Siang Yen " (Cigarette) on the obverse and " Wu Zhi " ( Five Sticks) on the reverse. It was inscripted on a defaced Chinese Hu Pei Ten Cash copper coin. Many details of the original coin are still can be seen.
This cigarette token is good for five sticks of cigarette.

Both tokens were having countermarks of a Chinese word "Li" (Profit) on the obverse.

I have no clue about the origin of these cigarette tokens. Please share if you have some information....

TRADE CURRENCY OF THE MALAY ARCHIPELAGO EXHIBITION "GOLD' TOKEN.

The "Gold" Token Of The Trade Currency Of The Malay Archipelago Exhibition At Money Museum Of Bank Negara Malaysia.
This Money Museum Token was issued to commemorate the officially opening of the Exhibition of Trade Currency of the Malay Archipelago, Money Museum of Bank Negara Malaysia on 18th May 1995 by Y.B.Datin Sri Dr. Wan Azizah binti Dato' Wan Ismail.
The Numismatic heritage of the Malay Archipelago is as rich as the region itself. There were few other regions that had such a level of trade that has existed in this part of Southeast Asia. Every type of seafarer had been here over the centuries, bringing with them a wide range of currencies. From Chinese copper cash to South American "pieces of eight", Nusantara has been a magnet for money of all shapes, sizes and materials. When these are combined with the indigenous currency minted in the Archipelago, the legacy is immense.
This exhibition explores the coins and banknotes that have circulated in the Malay Archipelago, telling a story that goes back 2,000 years and that continues to evolve. By telling this story, the objective is to create a deeper understanding of the region. The history of the archipelago is largely about contact and the interconnectivity that existed in the region even during that period. Movement between islands and the mainland are mirrored by the encounters between the indigenous and foreign peoples. Farmers, traders, rulers, missionaries and the military have all had a part in the cosmopolitan societies that existed in Nusantara.
Money has taken many forms over the millennia, and our region has seen a greater diversity than most. Cowrie shells, tin "tampang" and brass gongs are some of the more exotic stores of value.
This token was initially mistaken for a gold token by some senior Malaysia numismatists. Actually it was minted on a highly polished brass planchet. This was confirmed by Puan Rohaya, the ex-chief curator of Money Museum BNM.
In my survey, so far there are only three pieces known to exist. One piece was located by me in Singapore and two pieces in Malaysia ,so this is a rare Money Museum BNM's VVIP token.
