MALAYSIA COINS:FINNED RIM ERROR COIN.
Malaysia Finned Rim Error Coin.
Rarity:RR
The proper term for this type of raised-extra-metal-around-the-rim error is a Finned Rim Error Coin. The cause of this error is usually one of this two things.
Either the planchet is too heavy for the normal die spacing, or the dies are improperly spaced and coming too close together during the strike. This causes excess metal to squeeze up between the dies, resulting in the extra bit of raised metal around the rim. It would seem likely that the latter problem is what accounts for the finned rim error here.

Hi Dickson,
ReplyDeleteNice finned rim specimen here.
Honestly, this is one of the examples that you have posted which is extremely useful especially for amateur collectors.
As we know most major errors are almost impossible to locate among the circulation coins, it is the minor errors or varieties which are can be found if one is lucky and persistent.
So visual examples like this finned rim coin will be good references for us.
Hope you can continue posting more of these 'common' errors to guide amateur collectors.
Thanking you for your good and generous guidance, Dickson :)
Dear whycollect,
ReplyDeleteAlthough my eyes doubled blink with 10 sen,I am lucky enough to spot this Finned Errors.
