TEMAN 2007 - Moving To The Future
Venue: Kuala Lumpur.
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
TEMAN 2007 is the 13th Technical Meetings of Mints in ASEAN that was held in Malaysia from 28th August to 2nd September 2007.
The TEMAN 2007 is designed to be more user interactive and provide hands on experience to participants. The conference has grown by leaps and bounds to function not only as a technical meeting, but to also serve as a forum of discussion for commercial and monetary issues.
TEMAN has become an avenue of discussion of wide-ranging topics not strictly related to the technical aspect of minting. “TEMAN’s spirit is not only about learning, sharing and exchanging information, but also showcasing the latest technology in producing coins from coin-blank manufacturers including machineries and equipment, as well as demonstrating the coins and medals production.
TEMAN, The Technical Meeting of Mints in ASEAN, or abbreviated as ”TEMAN”, was established in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1983. It is a forum for the exchange of information and know-how relating to coin and medal production including, but not limited to, blank preparation, coin design, engraving and die-making, production and quality control methods, packaging and distribution system, equipment and general management practices, in an atmosphere of mutual confidence.
The abbreviated word “TEMAN” comes from the Indonesian word, which means “FRIENDS”.
Since then, TEMAN was held every 2 years, and TEMAN members are rotated in alphabetical order to act as host country.
At present members of TEMAN are mints in 10 ASEAN countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Union of Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
This TEMAN 2007 Proof Medallion was designed by the Master Designer of Royal Mint Malaysia, Mr. Ismail Ibrahim. It was a very passionate, amazing and spectacular design on the coin and the box.
The coin impressed me with some details design on the obverse that looked like the B-2 Spirit Stealth Bombers of the U.S. Air Force.
The design on the box was very unique as well. It was designed without hinges and clips. Master designer Ismail Ibrahim used a simple sliding magnet locking gadget, which I used to believe "less is more".
The specification, only 155 pieces was minted, very limited.
