50 CENTS COIN WITH CONCENTRIC LINES

Malaysia Parliament Series 1988 50 Cents Coin With Concentric Lines.Die Variety.
Rarity:RRR

During my recent visit to Malacca Jonker Stamp and Money Fair,Mr.S T Ngoh,a very passionate coins collector, showed me a piece of Malaysia Parliament series 1988 50 Cents coin with concentric lines exhibited on the obverse of the coin. This is a rather rare feature that can be seen on a genuine coin.

Malaysia.1988.50 cents.Concentric lines On Obverse
Malaysia.1988.50 cents.Concentric lines.Reverse.
I used to highlight that to authenticate a Malaysia counterfeit  50 cents coin, the feature of concentric lines is always one of the prominent sign showed on the field of both the obverse and reverse of a counterfeit coin.

I am still hunting for an answer for this rare piece of genuine Parliament 50 cents coin with concentric lines on the obverse.

A big thanks to Nu coins and Notes for giving us an answer and  details explanation on this genuine Parliament 50 cents coin with concentric lines on the obverse.

"It seems that these concentric lines are actually lathe-machined lines when dies were lathed out from designated-sized steel rods. Dies or rather their imperfections are usually polished or perfected before the first hubbing/impression are carried out. However, some dies were probably not well polished or cautiously inspected before hubbing.
Upon hubbing, these incuse lathe lines forms part of the coin's design with obvious raised concentric lines."-

  1. Hi Dickson,
    Wow, learned something new again.
Before this, always got the idea that concentric circles means forgery.
Yes, it would be great if we can get the answer to this phenomena on the 50sen coin.
    Thnaks a lot, Dickson :)

  2. Hi Mr Dickson,
    Terima kasih banyak2 Mr Dickson.
