MALAYSIA MEDALLION " SEPAKBOLA " OR " BOLASEPAK " ?
Piala Emas Raja-Raja (1984) Persekutuan Sepakbola Melayu Semenanjung. A Spelling Error ?
Few days ago, I bought this medallion, the "Piala Emas Raja-Raja (1984) Persekutuan Sepakbola Melayu Semenanjung " from a walked in collector at my Dickson Niew Collection shop at Subang Jaya.
"Football Federation of the Malay Peninsula " is one of the oldest associations in the country and it was established on April 19, 1947. Originally named the Association of Football Federation of the Malay Peninsula or Persekutuan Bolasepak Melayu Semenanjung (PBSMS).
The first meeting of the establishment of the Association was held at Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur and its first president was Dr. Abbas bin Haji Alias, Honorary Secretary General, Mr. Md Said Abdul Rahman and Treasurer, Mr. Mahmud bin Jintan. The Association was registered with the Registrar of Societies Malaya in 1950 with the registration number 889/50.
On the obverse of the medallion with a Malay inscription of "Persekutuan Sepakbola Melayu Semenanjung" inscribed from the position of 7 o'clock, clock-wise to 5 o'clock position. A Coat-of-Arms at the center and three stars were located at the bottom ( 6 o'clock ) position.
On the reverse, the Malay inscription is "Piala Emas Raja-Raja" (King's Gold Cup) 1984 , a "Kris" trophy was displayed at the center. Under the "Kris" trophy is a Malay word "CENDERAMATA" (SOUVENIR). Two stars at the bottom ( 6 o'clock ) position.
The weight measured at 40gm, diameter is 64mm and with plain edge.
What puzzled me is the spelling of " SEPAKBOLA".
What I was taught in the school, it should be spelt "BOLASEPAK".
Your constructive comments are most welcome. Cheers !
