A minor off-center strike and a misaligned die (MAD) is very similar looking errors ~ the difference? An off-center is struck out of collar, and a MAD is struck in collar but one of the dies is off center.
Hi Dickson,
ReplyDeleteWe noticed this type of error also has a thicker rim along the unstruck section of the coin.
Is this a common feature for off-center/MAD?
Really grateful to you for posting all these errors in pictorial form.
It makes references so much easier.
Thanks alot Dickson :)
Dear whycollect,thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteYes,is always has a thicker rim along the unstruck section of the coin, because the minted area has been struck with a pressure of 80 to 120 tonnage per square inch (for 50 cents coin). So is quite a common feature for off-center/MAD coinage.
