Mr.Tony Au, one of the 30,000 spectators in the Grandstand, he told me he was planning to buy a few sets of this Sepang F1 Commemorative Coins Set after the race, sad to find out that not even a single piece of souvenir item was left in the F1 souvenir arcade after the race.
F1 souvenir arcade, with the total trading area of more than 10,000 square feet (size of 10 shop lots), was totally emptied by the Formula-1 spectators from all over the world in 1999. Resulted the local market is  totally dried of MALAYSIA FORMULA ONE GRAND PRIX 1999 Commemorative Coin stocks.

  1. Hi Dickson,
We noticed that the RM15 coins which come in the light brown rubber wood boxes to be less common compared to those housed in the hard transparent plastic capsules.
Wonder what is the percentage issued for those in the wooden boxes and plastic capsules?
Haha, we seem to fell in love with the boxes before the coins.
Simple yet elegant and compact boxes make keeping these coins so easy with the smell of wood and lacquer still present even after so many years.
By the way, could their scarcity be due to either the rich F1 fans are keeping them tightly as souvenirs or the actual mintage is less than the approved mintage?
An interesting pair of desirable coins indeed.
Thanks a lot for sharing, Dickson :)

The RM15 coins which come in the light brown rubber wood boxes are to be more favorable by collectors but the copper nickel coin in side is not house in a capsule, easily tarnish by finger print.

  13. Hi, thank you for clearing that up.

Now I remember why I got the complete set, early bird through contact directly from the mint.
