Johore Tin Cash (Katun) With Impaired Casting Errors.

Tin cash or Katun of Johore as there were known,were minted in a variety of shapes and sizes for use in the local markets.Some of these Katuns were circular,others hexagonal octagonal.  A few of them were inscribed and with a "Pusat" (Dot).

The tin coins of Johore are not easy to obtain. Those survive the ravages of time are generally found in very poor condition.


This Johore tin Katun with unique shape likely is a result of impaired or imperfection casting.Obverse shows a "Pusat" (Dot) in the centre and with a blank reverse.Weight at 0.95gm and with a diameter of 18.42mm to 21.08mm. Its shape suppose to be in octagonal but ended with an odd shape due to impaired casting.Its composition is tin.
