A coin struck on a planchet created for another denomination or foreign planchet. These are among the most popular of error types and command good premiums.Even more desirable when the planchet used is of a different colour than the intended planchet.

Through out the years, the Kilang Wang Negera (KL Royal Mint) has contracted to strike coins for many foreign nations and sometimes these foreign planchets get stuck in the "tote bins" which are used to transport planchets to the coining presses. On Malaysia coins this can only occur on planchets that are of the same size or smaller than the denomination being struck.

  1. Hi Dickson,
    Nice specimen you've got here.
We noticed that there are some 50sen coins of the hibiscus series having edges somewhat like this specimen here.
We would be most grateful if you could kindly take a look at one of the specimen that we will be posting in our blog in a short while.
By the way, we also found a 1973 50sen coin without the Bank Negara Malaysia letterings.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Cheers :)
