  1. These waffle error coins look like telephone tokens.
    Are these waffles purposely created on the coins so as to render them useless to prevent recirculation?

  2. Interesting specimens you have here.
    But then again, these are not actually error coin per se but imperfectly struck or mis-struck coins that were 'waffle cancelled' by the Mint. Waffled specimens since the coins resembles the waffle by their roller and blade cancellation machine.
    Since 2003, the US Mint allowed these waffle cancelled collectibles especially their state quarters to be sold to the public as collectibles but not as errors via The Philadelphia Waffle Hoard.
    It can be interesting to call the Malaysian sen above by some other name since it is not waffle-like, if it is ever a cancellation specimen in the first place. But then again, if that is a cancelled specimen, shouldn't it be kept by the Mint and destroyed?
