Malaysia Split Planchet Before Strike Error Coin With Rotated Die Errors.

In this case a planchet splits in two before being struck,as the term would suggest.
Due to the impurity of the blank or planchet,and if it is severe enough, it can cause the planchet to split into two halves obverse and reverse.

They are usually of normal diameter but are very thin.

They are struck on both the obverse and reverse, the resulting coin will be thin and have detail on both sides,much of the design is usually light, intermingled with multitudes of  rough striations lines visible on the side that splited due to the impurities.

  2. I suppose the parallel striations lines would be evident ONLY on the side that splited and not on BOTH sides.

    Yes, you're right.
    After reading this post, we checked one of ours, and found only one side of the coin has striations whereas the opposite side was rather smooth.
