In the mid 19th century an expedition of 87 men sailed up the Klang River in search of tin.On reaching the confluence of the Klang and Gombak Rivers, they continued inland on foot until they reached Ampang and struck a vast deposit of the precious metal.A town soon grew at the confluence of the rivers and it was named Kuala Lumpur, which in Malay means  "Muddy Mouth of The Confluence".

Kuala Lumpur was the administrative centre in the early days og Malay's history. In 1896 with the formation of the Federated States comprising Selangor,Negri Sembilan,Perak and Pahang,Kuala Lumpur became the capital.Again, after Merdeka (Independence) in 1957,and finally the formation of Malaysia in 1963,Kuala Lumpur maintained its capital status.

Today Kuala Lumpur is the Capital City of Malaysia with its old Moorish-style government buildings blending harmoniously with its modern skyscrapers and its multi-racial population living and working happily together.

  1. Hi Dickson,
    Nice pewter medallion.
In fact, it will be interesting to start a collection of these pewter medallions by Selangor Pewter.
Apart from Malaysia, we have seen a number of Singaporean medallions by the same company too.
Surely one company that we can be proud of :D
