This Singapore Cock / One Keping 1247AH Over struck On English Half Penny Copper Planchet token was shown to me by Mr.Mahadevan yesterday when he visited my Dickson Niew Collection Corner at Subang Jaya. Mr. Mahadevan is a very serious Singapore tokens collector.He has been keep looking for the rare and very rare pieces to add into his collection.
Obverse: A spurred fighting cock facing right.In Jawi "Tanah Melayu" (Land of the Malays). Variety of last tail feather of cock single and curls to the left. The whole overstruck on a new English Half Penny Of King George II with concentric lines.
Reverse: In Jawi "Satu Keping 1247 AH" (One Keping 1247 AH= 1831/32).The whole overstruck on a new English Half Penny Of King George II with concentric lines.
Edge: Plain.

ReplyDeleteYes, Singapore copper tokens were struck manually in private firms,these merchants produced their own version of the cock tokens,there were suppose to be counterfeits or forgery but everyone was just accept it as money.
