Tien An Men
Tian An Men (Gate of Heavenly Peace) is situated in the centre of China's capital, Beijing. First built in 1420 and rebuilt in 1651, it was the front gate of the imperial palaces in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. On October 1, 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China Here. Since then Tian An Men has become the symbol of New China.

This hall on the west side of Tian An Men Square is the site of China's National People's Congress. Built in 1959, this building looks grand and imposing. It is a place where the leaders of the Party and state receive credentials from foreign emissaries and meet with foreign guests.
