This monument stands in the centre of Tian An Men Square. Chairman Mao personally laid the cornerstone for the monument. The construction began in 1952 and was completed in 1958. The front side of the monument glitters with Chairman Mao's inscription "The People's Heroes Are Immortal" The reverse side bears an epitaph drafted by Chairman Mao and incised with Premier Zhou En-lai's handwriting.
Tian An Men (Gate of Heavenly Peace) is situated in the
centre of China's capital, Beijing. First built in 1420 and rebuilt in
1651, it was the front gate of the imperial palaces in the Ming and Qing
Dynasties. On October 1, 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding
of the People's Republic of China Here. Since then Tian An Men has become
the symbol of New China.
This hall on the west side of Tian An Men Square is the site of China's National People's Congress. Built in 1959, this building looks grand and imposing. It is a place where the leaders of the Party and state receive credentials from foreign emissaries and meet with foreign guests.
This memorial hall stands on the south side of Tian An Men
Square. Built in May 1977, the edifice looks solemn and majestic. Over the
entrances are horizontal tablets with Chairman Hua's inscription
"Chairman Mao Memorial Hall". In the north room is a
white-marble statue of Chairman Mao (in a sitting posture). The Chairman
lies in state in a transparent crystal sarcophagus in the central hall.
I bought this set of China gold coin from a local collector and now is in the good hand of my best friend cum customer in Ipoh.
