KELANTAN 10 KEPING TIN COIN 1321 A.H. (1904) CONTEMPORARY COUNTERFEITS.
Malaysia Kelantan State,Contemporary Counterfeit 10 Keping Tin Coin 1321 A.H.(1904)
On last Sunday, MNS Auction No:152 was held at Malaysia National Museum,Kuala Lumpur.
Lot:54; was a piece of Kelantan, Contemporary counterfeits.Pitis or Keping 1321 A.H (1904). in EF condition with reserved price at RM80.(SS 22)
The Sultan of Kelantan made a handsome profit on the genuine tin coins as it contained less than ten times the amount of tin used on a normal pitis.This led to a large scale counterfeiting and the coin had to be withdrawn soon after.
This counterfeit tin coin is published here so that collectors will be aware of the different from the official issue.
Obverse:Crude inscription in Arabic "Belanjaan Kerajaan Kelantan Sepuloh Keping 10"(Currency of the Government of Kelantan Ten Keping 10).
Reverse:Also with a crude inscription in Arabic"Suni'a fi Dhu'l Hijja i.e. the 12th month of the Hijra Year 1321 A.H. = Feb/March 1904)
