Malaysia 1976 One Cent Transitional Errors Is On A Copper Planchet NOT On A Bronze Planchet!
Two hours ago, numismatist Amir called me to double confirm the Malaysia 1976 One Cent Transitional Errors is on a Copper Planchet or Bronze Planchet ?
Two weeks ago,Blogger Lunaticg had published in his Blog: "1976 1 sen copper or bronze?", I received a call from him, he wants to double confirm our Malaysia 1976 One Cent Transitional Errors is on a Copper Planchet or Bronze Planchet ?
I answered, it is a Copper Planchet !
Since last week,I received 5 calls from local numismatists,asking me the same question.
They are still confuse the different between a Bronze coin and a Copper coin.
How to tell the difference between a Bronze coin and a Copper coin?
Take a look at the color of the coin. Bronze coins are typically a deep-brown color, or at least a variant of brown. Bronze is a loose term that conveys a wide range of copper alloys, which means that copper is combined with tin, aluminum or nickel. But typically, Bronze is 60 percent copper and 40 percent tin or nickel.
Copper is a reddish brown metal that turns green when it corrodes, Copper is a softer metal ,by thumping it, its creates a mellower, rounder sound.
Malaysia have never use a bronze planchet for its one cent coin since the first issued of Malaysia coinage in 1967.
In MNS previous auctions, this Malaysia 1976 One Cent Transitional Errors was listed as copper planchet coin.Most of the numismatist still follows Steven Tan's Catalouge, it was a mistake and collectors from international and local market are still quoting him and follows his description.
