PATANI-KELANTAN GOLD KUPANG USED AS AN AMULET

Patani-Kelantan "Shah Adil"/ "Malik Al Adil" Gold Kupang Amulet
Rarity:RRR/SS43

A circular Patani-Kelantan Kupang (Gold) coin was used as an amulet. This is the second piece of Patani-Kelantan Gold Kupang with ring that I had collected. The ring indicate that it has been used as an amulet.

On the obverse with Arabic inscription:" Shah Adil" (Just Ruler) and on the reverse is :"Malik Al Adil" (The Just Ruler).

The first Petani-Kelantan Gold Kupang used as an amulet that I had collected is a Kijang Gold Kupang. SS54.

When I made a research, I came across articles written by Anker Rentse, "A Note On Kelantan Gold Coins" & " Gold Coins Of The North-Eastern Malay States" that were published in The Royal Asiatic Society 1939, he said an old Haji from Patani Jering told him the small rings on the Gold Kupangs indicate that the coins have been used as an amulet of the kind given to children to wear as a protection against evil influences and some to be worn round a child's neck to benefit the child's eyes.

Happy Niewmismatics !
