THE PAKAR NUMISMATIK MALAYSIA (PKM) MR.TAN TAI SENG
Mr. Tan Tai Seng The Pakar Numismatik Malaysia (PKM).
Mr. Tan Tai Seng (Age:75), was born on 1941 in Segamat, Johor.
He started to collect coins at the age of 7 years old when he was given some pieces of British Penny for his green coconuts by the British army in an army camp at Segamat, Johor in 1948, after the second World War. He starts to love this hobby.
During his school days, he used to visit two coin dealers at the main street of Segamat town.
After school, he went to Kuala Lumpur and started to work as a general clerk in an audit department with the Government. He joined the Malaysia Numismatic Society in his early 20’s. He served as the treasurer of Malaysia Numismatic Society for more than 35 years.
Mr.Tan Tai Seng is a very senior collector on Malay States Sultanate coinages. He was in the same era with some of our late Tokoh Pakar Numismatik on Malay States Sultanate Coinages, they wre En Ishak Latif , En.Hanafi, Mr. Tony Lye, the formal President of Malaysia Numismatic Society, Mr. E.E. Sim and Datuk Kasim.
He bought his first piece of tin coin, a Kelantan Pitis, SS1 for RM22 in 1968. He bought his first 13 coins Pohon Pitis Terengganu for RM1,000 & a 17 coins Pohon Pitis for RM1,500 in early 1970’s.
In his 35 years of life as a part time trader in numismatic, he had traded more than 200 pieces of Malay States Gold Kupang, more than 30 pieces of Gold Mas of Malay States and countless of tin coins on his trips to Kuantan,Terengganu & Kelantan.
He sold most of his rare pieces of Malay States Sultanate coins to our Museum Bank Negara Malaysia.
Mr. Tan Tai Seng is also a Pakar Numismatik Malaysia (PKM) on Penang, Straits Settlements, British North Borneo, Malaya and Malaysia modern coinages.
