Off-Center strike coins are one of the most common and best known types of errors. This happens when a blank which is supposed to be fed into the press, lands in the collar improperly. When this occurs only part of the blank is between the upper and lower dies. When the dies strike the blank, only that part will be struck with a design.

Each error is different, and is categorized by two different measurements:
1-The amount of the coin design that is visible.(e.g.15% Off-Center).
2-The Off-Center design is located in reference to a clock.(e.g. Three o'clock position)

The more desirable and collectable Off-Center Errors will be the dated Off-Center coins and many collectors are looking for examples that are more than 50% Off-Center.

  1. Nice specimens you have eh.
Assuming if it is a 3.00 or 9.00 off-center strike, how would a collector reconcile his desire to have a dated and yet more than 50% off-center specimen?
You think more than 70% off-center would command a better premium for sellers and a better choice for EV collectors as well?

  2. Dear Nu,
Q:Assuming if it is a 3.00 or 9.00 off-center strike, how would a collector reconcile his desire to have a dated and yet more than 50% off-center specimen?
    A:Good question,may be 50% off-center strikes at 9 o'clock on obverse or 50% off-center strikes at 3 o'clock on reverse.
Answer for next question is yes.Is not easy to come by with a 70% off-center strike coin.
Is very thrilling to find one.

  3. Hi Dickson,
We've got one which is more than 50% off center.
But its a pity the date is not present.
What do you think about such undated off-center strike coin?
The specimen in question have been posted in our blog.
    Thanks alot Dickson.

  4. On the bunga raya series or parliament series, a 50% 9.00 obverse strike is actually equal to a 3.00 reverse strike and you probably won't see the date. Maybe a 50% 3.00 obverse strike which would make a 50% 9.00 reverse strike should see the date.
Maybe I am ignorant a little since I usually ignored all those with more than 70% off-center strike, hehe.
    Good discussion.
    Cheers!

  5. Dear Nu,I hope our followers wouldn't get 'kepala pusing' because of your"Maybe a 50% 3.00 obverse strike which would make a 50% 9.00 reverse strike should see the date." and my "may be 50% off-center strikes at 9 o'clock on obverse or 50% off-center strikes at 3 o'clock on reverse."
Don't you think so we are talking the same thing!Haha! The only different is your "reverse strikes" and my "reverse Off-Center Strikes!"
Hope that our followers don't call for paracetamol.
