SPLIT PLANCHET BEFORE STRIKE VS SPLIT PLANCHET AFTER STRIKE
The Different Between Split Planchet Before Strike And Split Planchet After Strike.
Rarity:RRR
Planchets can split due to deep internal laminations, or in the case of clad coinage, because of poor adhesion of the copper-nickel outer layers to the copper core.
Planchets may split before or after striking.
Split Planchet Before Strike generally exhibit weak details due to lack of metal to fill the dies. When the split occurs before striking, can appear very similar to die adjustment strikes. They will exhibit a varying degree of weakness to the obverse and reverse depending on the thickness of the planchet.
On non-clad coins, the inner portion of the split shows parallel striations typical of the interior structure of coinage metal.
Planchet split before the strike are more scarce, but neither is especially rare.
