COUNTERFEITS MAS GOLD JOHORE

Counterfeits Johore Malay Sultanate Mas Gold Coin.

Recently I had posted a few posts on the Malay Sultanate Kupang, Kijang and Mas Gold coins. The main reason being, I am trying to share with Malay Sultanate coins collectors on how to detect a counterfeits.

I try to take as many as possible of clear and sharp images of the genuine Sultanate gold coins, so that we can always make comparison when we come across any suspicious pieces.A piece of good advice from one of my respectful sifu, he said "If you see two pieces of identical rare Sultanate coin at the same time, just ignore them, likely there are forgery."

I would like to add, if you are being approach by a dealer or a collector with a few extremely rare (RRRR) Malay Sultanate coins at the same time, please ignore them. It is too rare to be true.

If you are being offered a Mas Johore with a market selling price of RM8000 for only RM1500, you must turn down their offer. It is too cheap to be true.

You are encourage to learn from a few renown Malay Sultanate coin sifus, they are Dr.Ibrahim Bakar,Master Ishar A Latif,Master Haji Mohd Rani,Master Adnan, Master Saran Singh, Master Tan Tai Seng, Master W Y Kong,Master Kenny Ong etc. You are also encourage to read books published by Bank Negara Malaysia, books written by some famous European authors, like Major F. Pridmore.

I would like to share  some of the counterfeit  Mas Johore gold coins' images that I managed to acquired from my Singapore associate, a collector bought them from Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia.
I had referred these photos to a few of our local sifus for authentication, all of them said there are the forgery Mas Johore gold coins.

So, please be acquainted with this group of unscrupulous counterfeit Sultanate gold coins caveat emptors.

  1. You say:- If you are being offered a Mas Johore with a market selling price of RM8000 for only RM1500, you must turn down their offer. It is too cheap to be true.

My answer:- when we buy, we buy from kampong people according to the weight of the gold. 2.5 gram ie: and we pay around rm500 - 600. and if i sell rm1500, i earn 1k per pc. For muzium, we sell rm 8 to 10 k per pc. and if we sell rm8k to individual collector, even dato' also can't affort to buy. when isra & nasron came to kota tinggi and buy gold coins from Mr.Akob, do you know how much they pay? they only pay a few hundred only to Mr. Akob. and they try to buy as cheap as they can instead they know the actual price of the MAS & KUPANG. now, when i get from the same location where Mr.Akob found, some joker try to be funny with me. Actually they also new in johore coins. they don't know anything. they only read and learn from other people. they don't have fact to proof the johore coin is counterfeit unless they live 400 years ago. give some proof that your statement can support what you write in your blog. if you not sure what you write, better wipe it.

    1. I agree with Mr Raja comments.Recently, there are too many smart aleck who claim themselves as a coin experts, but in the actual fact, they knew nothing about the history and the different writing styles of Jawi script.

These groups of people are better known as a commercial coin dealers, rather than a serious collector. They only know: "BUY LOW","SELL HIGH".

Whenever,I read this article,I start to laugh...From the article we can easily tell whether he/she is a knowledgeable person a not.
