TIN JOKOH (1895) OF TERENGGANU
Terengganu Tin Jokoh (1895).
Terengganu Tin Jokoh is a private monetary token , issued during reign of Sultan Zainal al Abidin III (1881-1918) by various Chinese Kongsi.
Terengganu Tin Jokoh 1895 (SS 38).
Obverse: Within an ornamental border and a circle of dots the Chinese characters "Hiap Hin Kongsi" (Hiap Hin Company). The edge is counterstamped with the Chinese character "Chi" (Auspicious).
Reverse: In Jawi, “Ini Juru Bahasa Punya” (This is the Interpreters) within an ornament ring of stars. Two countermarks in Chinese "Kongsi on the left and "Hiap Hin" on the right. On some specimens the position of the counterstamps is transposed. An anti forgery wire is incorporated into the coin surface.
Edge: Plain.
Weight : 8.06gm.
Diameter : 32mm. Square central hole.
Composition :Tin
Note: (a) The above Jokoh was issued by Sultan's Juru Bahasa (Chinese Interpreter) in lie of salary.
(b) A piece of the above Jokoh without any counterstamp on the obverse and reverse has been seen. This indicates that these counterstamps were made after the Jokoh were cast.

ReplyDeleteI bought this Jokoh tin coin from a Dr.who is a very serious collector.His collection in Malay States Tin Cash mostly are still in about mint condition!
