Rarity:RRR
On last 7th June 2013, I posted an article about a piece of original uncirculate 1889 1/2 Cent copper coin but was impaired by chiseling a "20" figure to cover the "1/2" cent denomination.
Recently I acquired a piece of 1916 counterfeit Straits 1/4 cent copper coin but was impaired with a "10" cents figure with the intention to cheat.
I am not promoting forgery coins but it reflects the social-economy during then. People were desperate to cheat 9 3/4 cents from a 1/4 cent copper coins by chiseling a figure "10" to replace the "1/4" cent denomination.
I was told by my mother, a kati (600gm) of rice only sold for 1 cent in early 1920s.
