FORGERY GOLD KUPANG & KIJANG PATANI-KELANTAN

Forgery Gold Kupang And Gold Kijang Of Petani-Kelantan.
The topic of forgery gold Kupang and Mas of Malay States Sultanate Coinages has been a hot issue among the local numismatists. When I visited PKM Mr.Steven Tan in his office at Pertama Complex for lunch today, he also asked me who is the culprit did such bad things to our Master Saran Singh. Master Saran Singh is in the verge of publishing his second copy of reference book on Malaya Rubber Coupons. We are wishing him and looking forward to his best reference book.
I would like to share with you a few pieces of my forgery Patani-Kelantan "Gold" Kupang and "Gold" Kijang. The purpose of my collection is to study, do research and sharing my finding to my blog, facebook and twitter visitors so that they will not fall victim to these caveat emptors. I sincerely like to thank those senior numismatists who were willingly to allow me to inherit their "forgery" collections.

Lately, I collected a pair of Bank Negara Malaysia's Money Museum Souvenir Aluminium Tokens struck with proof dies and were struck in Off Centre Strike Error.
Off Centre Strike. Weight: 2.80gm. Diameter: 27.00mm
This minting your own souvenir tokens service was introduced in the old Money Museum of BNM for visitors who visit the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Money Museum. They can buy an aluminium blank and try to mint a token themself on a Coin Minting Machine provided by Money Museum Of BNM.
Composition: Aluminium.
This special service was provided by Money Museum Of BNM  from 1989 until 2006 and it was discontinued when the old Money Museum of BNM was closed for renovation. Every year, a different design was introduced and they were all together 18 designs, they were even  proof tokens issued in year 1989 and 1993.

When the new Money Museum (MAG) Of BNM, at the Sasana Kijang was relocated and relaunched in year 2011, this special service of minting a Money Museum souvenir token yourself on a Coin Minting Machine during your visit was no longer available.
Collar Die Strike Errors
In my post published on 31-3-2012, I sincerely hope and urged our Bank Negara Malaysia will consider to reintroduce this very interesting and special service again to visitors who visit the Sasana Kijang Money Museum of BNM in Kuala Lumpur.

1925 PERAK GAMING TOKEN

Perak Tin Clad Aluminium Gaming Token (1925)

I was given a chance by a very senior numismatist to inherit this dated 1925 Perak tin clad aluminium gaming token. He told me he collected this token and has been keeping it in his collection for more the 20 years. This token was found in Perak.

He told me it was a gaming  token that was used in gambling activities. When I showed to Master Saran Singh during his recent visit to Dickson Niew Collection shop at Subang Jaya, he said it can be a tally or Checks coin too.
On the obverse, it was designed with a  peacock in the center.(Some claimed to be a owl or a frog). It was surrounded with a fire like design on the inner ring and dotted design at the outer ring, the dotted design are resembled the peacock tails. It also struck with dentils on the rim.

On the reverse, the inscription is a figure "1" in the center of a circle, surrounded with dotted design that resembled the tails of peacock bird, floral design on the external ring. That is a ribbon designed at the bottom of figure "1". It means 1 Cent? That is no value indication.

This token has a collar die strike error. The error shows that it was a struck token.

More interesting to me on this token is on its obverse.  I saw the date "1925" under the peacock but on the stomach of the peacock, they are some wordings. I read the alphabets as "WEY" on the top layer but on the second layer, I am not so sure the group of alphabets means. It looked like "ZUNP", but what is the meaning?  I sincerely seek your opinion! Please share with me if you have some clues on this gaming token. Thank you in advance.

Weight: 5.32gm.
Diameter: 26.70mm.
Condition: UNC.

MASTER SARAN SINGH WITDREW THE LETTER OF CERTIFICATION ON MAS JOHOR

Announcement: Master Saran Singh had decided to withdraw the letter of "Authentication Of Mas Johor" that he signed in a meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on 26-11-2011 with immediate effect.(9.30pm. 28-10-2014). He is no longer responsible in any Johor Gold Kupang and Mas business transaction using or attached with this letter with his signature. Thank you!
Two days ago, Master Saran Singh visited my Dickson Niew Collection shop at Subang Jaya. He told me he was very angry, upset and sad that somebody is using his letter of authentication  that he certified during our meeting in Bob Chew's shop at Berjaya Times Square on 26-11-2011 to sell forgery Sultanate Gold Coinage. He received couple of complaints from some senior numismatists on this irresponsible seller.

I was the person who arranged the meeting. ("MAS'' MEETING IN KUALA LUMPUR. 26-11-2011. http://dniewcollectors.blogspot.com/2011/11/malaysia-sultanate-coins.html). Among persons who attended at the meeting were  Anjung Numismatik , the Johore MAS man from Johore, MGM Sabri, Mr.Chaw, Bob Chew from Kuala Lumpur, new and young collectors Alex Wong and Rickky Chia from Bukit Jalil. It was a very meaningful meeting.

But, later we found that a caveat emptor was using the authentication letter singed by Master Saran to promote his counterfeit Mas Johor. Master Saran Singh was very sad, he said how can he used our good faith and sincerity to do something that it is going to tarnish our name, damage our good reputation, spoil our future generation in numismatic, cheating the young and up coming numismatists.

Half an hour ago, Master Saran Singh wanted me to announce his final decision that he is withdrawing the letter of authentication of the Mas Johor that he signed during that meeting. He is no longer responsible on any Mas Johor transaction that using this letter as the tool of creditability. He cautious the buyers not to trust such deals attached with this letter. Please ask for other Malay Sultanate coin sifus for second or even third opinion before you decide to do the purchase.

We feel very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Rarity: R/SS51

One more rare Gold Kupang that I received from my trip visit to Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
This "Damarussalam" Patani-Kelantan Gold Kupang was sold to me by En.Azman Azahari when I was back to Subang Jaya.

It was listed as SS51 and rated "R" in Master Saran Singh book, "The Encyclopaedia Of The Coins Of Malaysia Singapore And Brunei 1400-1967".

The "Damarussalam" Patani-Kelantan Gold Kupang is weight at 0.61 gram and with a diameter measured at 9.50mm

On the obverse in Arabic inscription: "Damarussalam" (Abode of Pease).
On the oobverse in Arabic inscription: "Damarussalam" (Abode of Pease).

On the reverse in Arabic is "Khalifah Shaib" which means "Kind Ruler".
On the reverse in Arabic is "Khalifah Shaib" which means "Kind Ruler".
It is a plain edge Gold Kupang with gold composition.

Dr. Ibrahim Bakar told me when we met up at Sasana Kijang in his recent trip to Kuala Lumpur, the Arabic inscription  " Damarussalam" should be read as "Darussalam", but because in order the word "Darussalam" can be written in a form that the "Sun" and the "Crescent Moon" can be shown in a more prominent font, it was translated as "Damarussalam". I learnt new knowledge from him. Thank you Dr. Ibrahim.

Although it was rated as one "R" in Master Saran Singh book, "The Encyclopaedia Of The Coins Of Malaysia Singapore And Brunei 1400-1967", but I was told by a few senior Malay States Sultanate collectors , this "Damarussalam" Patani-Kelantan Gold Kupang is not easy to find, it should also be rated as "RRR".

KUPANG (GOLD) DINAR MATAHARI PATANI-KELANTAN

Patani-Kelantan Gold Kupang Flower Type Dinar Matahari.
Rarity: RRR/SS61

This is the Gold Dinar of Kelantan-Patani in the 16th to18th century. The motif of the sun on the obverse of the gold coin has resulted in it being called Dinar Matahari (sun). Sun motifs found on these coins are like the sun is shining. Dinar Matahari is said to be affected by the currency used in the Kingdom of Patani, and it is believed to have been introduced by traders from India. The fact was confirmed when there is a discovery of coins using the sun as a motif on one side, and a bull motif on the other side, where these design was found in the Indian currency in the 3rd century BC. Therefore, it is likely the influence of the government of India to our Dinar Matahari Gold Kupang Patani-Kelantan currency. Although not all Dinar Matahari are using the shining sun motifs, some of them are using motifs such as flowers, but there were also called Dinar Matahari. Type of flower used is Lotus, it was used as a motif on the obverse of the Gold Kupang was by the influence of Buddhism, the lotus flower, is a symbol of chastity, cleanliness and purity, according to Buddhist believers.

Patani-Kelantan. Dinar Matahari (Six Petals) Gold Kupang of Patani-Kelantan Sultanate ( 16-18th Century)

Obverse : A 6 PETALLED FLOWER

Reverse: MALIK AL ADIL
Weight : 0.60gm

Diameter: 9mm

Composition :Gold

Ref Saran's : SS61

Rarity: RARE.

Source:(mrbacoincollection)
