Mechanical Die Doubling Coin
Often it looks like a doubled die but it is caused by loose dies that twist slightly after coming into contact with the planchet causing the die to slightly drag on the coin producing a flat, shelf-like doubled appearance. Mechanical doubling usually commands very little premium.

  1. Hi Dickson,
Unlike other varieties, find it rather tough going after all these DDO and DDR because they aren't many around.
Even the less significant ones are not easy to come by nowadays.
Haha, maybe luck just not with us.
    Congratulations Dickson :)

  2. Hi whycollect,
Whether significant or not, important to me is to collect a DDO or DDR in UNC/BU condition. The condition enhances the value or extra "last two marks-MS66/MS67" on US grading coins!

  3. Hi Dickson,
Looking at this coin of yours, I don't think it is a doubled die error but just a combination of abrasion and strike(mechanical) doubling. DD errors requires certain requirements and characteristics which your coin lacks.

    Thanks.
